i had a reading text from last monday's lecture..
it was "HE WHO IS PHOTOGRAPHED" by Roland Barthes

and there's something to debate about it.

a phrase i clearly remembered from tat text; "I pose,i know i am posing, I want you to know that i am posing, but (to square the circle) this additional message must in no way alter the precious essence of my individuality..."

but seriously, isnt everybody subconsiously trying to be someone else or tried to alter their individuality when a photographer snaps his/her picture? eventhough you thought that u were "natural" or look perfectly normal, with just a smile, or that wide grin on your face, does that really tells who you really are all the time? Definately, no one smiles 24/7. so doesnt it mean that most of us do alter our individuality when faced with the camera for that one moment.
And i believe that humans have their moods and they dont look "natural" every single milisecond of their lives..

and thus, there are reasons why pictures tell a thousand lies. Like for an example,you've just been told that you had to cancel all your plans with your friends over the weekends cuz you need to cover your friend at work and it so happened that you were having a nice dinner with all your family members and they decided to take a family photo after tat. What's with the smile on the face knowing that your plans has already been ruined by that work commitment?
Isnt it obvious that you TRIED to potray yourself in such a manner just so the end result of the photography will look good? and you just didn't want to ruin it.

wasnt it a happy dinner for all of you? but only YOU know how sucky it felt to have ur plans being flushed down the drain. And while your parents and siblings were busy shufffling themselves,trying to look good, you were swearing,and cursing and lashing every single "FUCK YOUS" tat you can think of in ur head.

yes..its so true that pictures tell lies..whether you look negative or positive "At That Point of Time"

for those who got captured on camera unknowingly by a fren and you looked like a train wrecked,it doesnt necessarily mean tat you're one..
and for those who look superbly gorgeous and stunning,it doesnt necessarily mean that you're one too. perhaps in the outside..but NOT the inside.

and when a good example to derive from this CamWhoring.
shots after shots. poses after different poses. and you see your individuality being altered time after time again. 1st shot-A fierce looking one.Menancing.BRUTALLLL

2nd shot-lets do the "im trying to act cute"
and so on...

just think about it ...
im stopping here cuz my brain is about to burst at any moment.
